The Marshall County Hoop Fest is considered to be the premier national basketball showcase in the nation, for the last 16 years welcoming the top teams from the United States and Canada. Marshall County’s rich basketball tradition and Reed Condor Gymnasium (rated as a top 10 facility to view high school basketball) is the perfect backdrop for teams to play and fans to view the number one high school showcase in the nation.
Last season, Aspire Academy came into the Marshall County Hoop Fest as supreme underdogs in their first game against Oak Hill Academy of Mouth of Virginia, Virginia. Despite the defeat at the hands of USA Today's #2 nationally ranked team in the country at the time 56-41, the Wizards showed great toughness and grit, holding the Warriors to their second lowest point-total in the last 2 seasons, and nearly pulling off what would have been the biggest upset of the year in boy's high school basketball. In a game much closer than the final score indicates, Aspire Academy held a 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, were tied at half and down 2 going into the fourth quarter. The Wizards held Oak Hill to 38% from the field and 20% from behind the ark, while forcing 12 turnovers for the game.
In the Wizards' second game of the showcase, Aspire Academy came out of the gates strong and never looked back, defeating Grind Session core-team Tennessee Prep by the score of 71-53. Aspire Academy is looking to build off of this momentum in 2017-18, and leave Benton, Kentucky a perfect 2 and 0 while putting the basketball world on notice that the Wizards are here to stay and coming for the Grind Session World Championship!
